Happy Volks Dolpa 21 Regular Items... woo! [18 Jul 2009|11:35am]

blastmilk

First time in nearly two years I've managed to schedule myself for a Volks USA shopping event! But I made it, 10:59:47 fingers poised at the ready for Dolpa 21 Regular Items sale! It is like getting concert tickets, oy! Too stressful.

You can go see what is left over now.

Heavenly Food .... Sayonara 20s [19 Jul 2009|01:10am]

lian

Omg.. had such wonderful Japanese food today at Wasabi Tei @ Far East Plaza (lvl 5 next to the lift) ... although we had to wait 2 hrs in the queue for it, but the wait was worth it!!! My friend and I shared a mixed sashimi platter and a grilled cod fish set. Too bad their chawanmushi was sold out. I heard from my friends that it's really nice!

I shall now let the pictures do the talking...

2hr wait in queue to get into this little restaurant

Finally we're in! Eagerly anticipating our food to come~

Everyone was served with a small appetiser .. jellyfish I think? Very fragrant and delicious! (btw, it's compulsory for everyone seated to order a drink. I got the hot green tea which was free flow)

Star of the show! Sashimi platter! Silly me only remembered to take a photo of it after eating almost half of it =___=. It was delicious! Every slice was so flavourful! The salmon belly was so soft, it almost melts in your mouth *in heaven*

The grilled cod fish set! Came with soup. Quite nice, the fish was very fragrant :)

Shop opening hours for those interested!

Today I bid farewell to my 20s .... *sigh*

So you think you can dance? [18 Jul 2009|03:27pm]

lian

Heh~ Anyone interested in picking up dancing? My friend just invited me to one of the dance sessions at the Esplanade. Check out the link if you are interested in any of them. We took up the salsa workshop before a couple months back. Quite fun :) Although as usual with dance classes, the ladies outnumber the men ^^; Had to learn the male steps since I was one of the taller ones >< http://www.esplanade.com/whats_on/programme_info/learning_dance_is_fun_and_so_much_more/index.jsp

Oh a bo liao note... got myself a guady sheep cushion for my chair!!! hahahaha... Thought it was quite suitable since I'm a sheep too! Anyways, was thinking of buying some cloth from IKEA to make cushion covers once this wears out :P

It's comfy!

eShakti.com: Gorgeously Girly for the Pleasantly Plump [17 Jul 2009|06:58pm]

(And you skinny girls too!)

CL0016157L.jpg
CL0016157L2.jpg

Ran across this link recently on another plumpy blog (don't remember where) and fell in love with the blastmilky styling of many of their tops and tunics. They have extensive sizing up to 24W (and custom tailoring for anything else), but you can easily customize the sleeve length, neckline, and tunic length of any of their blouses. Since the price was reasonable I gave it a go.

My frequent gripe is sleevelessness. as much as I'd like to be all free and easy, I have terrible scarring on my upper & under arms that I'm not too keen to show off. I was able to add little cap sleeves to this peachy piece, it is very victorian underwear-tastic. In two weeks I had received my custom taylored romanti-girly cotton voile tunic that is to die for. With little cutie sleeves!

It is perfect. I'm emptying my piggy bank all over that place.

with twitter... I tried it once before and got scared of the stalker-ish-ness of it... but I'm going to give it another shot because everyone says I'm supposed to. Tell me what's up, flist? If someone "follows" you, is it rude not to "follow" them back? Or am I going to get a million updates about people's cereal if I add everyone back? haha... &___&
(please don't be offended if I don't add you back... I'm worried about SN overload... I'm basically really worried about THIS. so bear with me.)

The facebook one is easy, I'll be using that page only for "OFFICIAL BISNES" :)

Livejournal is still my blog/socialnetworker of choice because I can choose in HTML how things look, I can have long posts, I can filter and add images, etc. But a lot of people don't use LJ, I guess? (I hate Myspace...)

The "old me" was slain and I was reborn (BTSSB parasol and jewelry) [16 Jul 2009|12:22pm]

I opened my package from BTSSB today and, silly me, I seriously almost cried at how pretty the stuff was inside. Everything about them fills me with glee. Oh, BABY, I love you! I'm so looking forward to the store opening in SF next month!
Baby, The Stars Shine Bright Bracelet @ aimeemajor.com

... I've been wanting a pagoda parasol like this for YEARS. I also got a folding parasol for when I travel (cause the full-size suckers do NOT fit in luggage.)

I keep thinking that I am going to "get over" lolita fashion, and I have been enjoying more styles lately... but stuff like this will always slay me, I think.

cucumbers and egg salad [15 Jul 2009|10:33am]

[ mood | cheerful ]

so, lately I really like cucumbers. It's great for hot weather like this. It was 103 degrees F this week! Also, I always think of kappa when I eat them. (They are one of my favorite weird mythical creatures... "Kappa may even befriend human beings in exchange for gifts and offerings, especially cucumbers." Well of course, cause cucumbers are awesome!
I started small with cucumber sandwiches thanks to Judy. It's pretty hard to screw those up. :D (You just soak the cucumber slices in white vinegar and sugar for a bit, and then put them with mayo on white bread.)
cucumber sandwich @ aimeemajor.com

But Senka Cafe in Little Tokyo puts cucumber slices on their egg salad sandwiches. (SO GOOD!) So I thought I'd try. My sandwich looks pretty good... but it's missing some flavor. I'm not sure what I should try to add next time? (suggestions welcome!)
Mine is basically 4 boiled eggs + 2 tablespoons mayo + 2 tsp sweet relish + some salt and pepper. Then I put that on some lettuce and cucumber slices on bread. I don't like celery or onions really (I know, weird.)

Back from Daicon!! [15 Jul 2009|12:02am]

lian
SOOOOOO EXHAUSTED!!!!

Just came back from the Daicon weekend event. Flew up on sat morning, flew back on sunday night ... lol still can't believe I managed to do that and still go to work on monday (ok.. so I took monday morning off) ... KOed at 8pm monday night lol

Daicon was fun hahaha.. regretted not makingmore haruhi suzumiya canbadges! There were a cute bunch of  japanese guys (fans of Chihara Minorin) who were so eager to buy them! But alas... not enough stock ><

Sold out on all the badges (K-on did really well! So happy ^_^), even Krauser sama got alittle love from the Daicon folks too! Miku and Rin did pretty well too :D Covered cost for the plane ticket, hotel, and booth cost for both events! :D Thank you for the support ^^

Tune Hotel was surprisingly quite good, considering it's a budget budget hotel (i.e. you have to pay extra if you want a/c ... hairdryer...toiletries etc.) If not for the fact that the corridoors get infested by moths at night. >< Wouldn't mind staying there again actually...

Experienced a hiccup at Daicon though. During the concert, they switched off all the lights, leaving thebooth owners in the dark! But luckily after this matter was brought up to the organisers, they brought torches, offered us compensation and also apologised to the booth owners profusely. Service recovery not bad ^^;

In all, not bad for a first time event, wouldn't mind going again next year :)

Random purchase from a store in LCCT

Lian Brand!!! I had to buy it... hahaha

Photos here

Off topic, here's a wedding card I did for a friend who just got married :) So happy for her !! Loved her wedding photos , so innovative and fun! Decided to do alittle mix media for this card and keep it simple ^^

[youtube] mrbrownshow.com - Wash Your Hands Too [14 Jul 2009|09:59pm]

rukiyo

This song amuses the hell out of me. I was chuckling to myself while listening to the whole thing. I mean, hey, how could you not be amused by a song where the first lines go,

“I don’t want you to TOUCH me baby,
You go toilet
Never wash hand right?”

*dies laughing*

It’s Singlish (Singaporean English); you might not be clear about some of the references, so here’s a quick reference:
kutu - Malay for head lice
blur block - dumbass (that’s inaccurate, but you get the jist); the word “blur” also refers to clueless-ness.
pang jio - Hokkien for urinate; to urine
chio - Hokkien for hot (as in, a “hot chick”, I guess? I’m not used to this word myself cos we don’t use it at all in our Hokkien here. At least I think it’s Hokkien. Singaporeans, feel free to correct!)

And yeah, they’re grammatically incorrect on purpose. Hee hee.

.

In reality, I’m not that amused by the swine flu though. On June 20 or so, we had our first case or two. Barely a week goes by and we have 100 cases. And we’ve now hit 300 cases. It’s barely a month and the numbers only look to be increasing steadily. I don’t know, but it seems that since no one’s dying yet, and it’s not as deadly as SARS, people still seem quite easygoing about the situation here. I mean, sure you get the “oh shit, it’s so scary, man” reactions, but you can tell it’s not so shitty scary when people are still going out like nothing’s wrong, bringing kids and children out when they don’t need to. There are some who wear masks out, but it’s only a small number. I mean, we have a population of only 381,371 and already we have 300+ cases. So that’s maybe a hundred new cases a week?

And to quote,

It has been reported Brunei had the highest growth in cases of H1N1 in the world in recent days. Also figures were alarming as per population density.

But you know what had irritated me the most? When the swine flu had been declared a pandemic all those months ago, a customer had been saying that it was all “media exaggeration”, and that they’re just trying to cause a panic. O_o Good gods. Trying to educate people by letting them know that there’s something out there that could be potentially dangerous equates to trying to cause a panic. Well, we’ve got 300 cases in the country now, and the same guy doesn’t seem that highly concerned that his “media exaggeration” has become serious reality.

I love everything about this (from BTSSB)
It's romantic and sweet... and to me the black makes it even more whimsical, like a starry sky. I lean more and more towards black lately. closeup of the print.

well... gotta get my todo list done:
♫ - get SDCC sketchbook to printer
♫ - get more sideburns for Mitch XD

♫ - finish Wolverine claws <3
♫ - oil change, gym and laundry (WOO EXCITING)
♫ - figure out how to make an egg salad sandwich

wed I get to dye fabric with my friend Susan! I'm really looking forward to it. It's perfect weather for it (ie really friggin hot so the fabric dries quickly <3) Undecided on whether I'm going to do it katazome style or not.

Jack still cries day and night
Jack's not happy with his life
He want to do this, he want to do that
You want to be kind, but ends up flat for love
For love

He tries so hard to give a lot
He wants to be what he is not
Love's not harsh and love's not bad
And what he's doing for love is so sad
(He wants to be so bad)
(He wants to be so bad)

All the time getting in
Things he can't get out
Something deep inside of him
Eating up the pride of him
That makes him buy things for the girls
(That's what you get for being polite)
(For being polite)

Jack still sits all alone
He lives the world that is his own
He's lost in thought of who to be
I wish to God that he would see just love
Give him love

(Jack still) Tryin' to make you happy, but...
(Jack still) Tryin' to make you happy, but...
(Jack still) Tryin' to make you happy, but he's not, but he's not

(Jack still) Tryin' to make you, but don't you know he cries
(Jack still) Don't you know he's scared
(Jack still) It's often for his love, it's for his love
Don't you know he often cries about you
He cries about me
He cries about you (You) and me (And me)
And every little thing that's in his way
He cries about me
He cries about you (You) and me (And me)
Know that he deserves to cry

- That's What You Get For Being Polite (Michael & Randy Jackson, 1978)

Some of those old lyrics are horribly prophetic. :(
