Currently reading Freakonomics by Steven D. Levitt & Stephen J. Dubner. Quite an interesting read :) The authors try to explain how the world works by using economics ... by how the world is driven by incentives. Just started, hope to be able to have time to enjoy this book :)

PACIFIC MEDIA EXPO -
~ SATURDAY ~
--- Angelic Pretty Tea Party -
12pm ~ 2:30pm. Seating begins at 11am. Bel Air Room, just off the hotel main lobby entrance
I'll be going. <3
~SUNDAY ~
---Panel: Japan Ai
10:00 AM, Room: Los Angeles B/C
I'll be showing images from the book and photos from my trip as usual, I'll also be showing some images from Cosplay Ai, my hopefully to be next book. I can also sign books and do little sketches as we have time.
--- PMX Fashion Show (AP and TA?)
11 am - 12:30 pm, International A
I'm hoping to watch <3
--- Panel: Intro to Asian Ball Jointed Dolls (with batchix)
1:00 PM, Room: Los Angeles B/C
We'll be talking generally about ABJD, Batchix can answer questions about her dolls, too... and whatever else you'd like to discuss. I'll probably bring June and Hotaru with me unless you guys have any requests. ^_^
And on Fri and Sat I'll be shopping AP and TA a bit. I'll probably be in lolita for the most of the con, if you see me, say hi! I'll probably be wearing plainclothes on Friday for the brief time I'm there (since I have to work), and then Wonder Party for Saturday... and then perhaps Sweets Time for Sunday. ....
----------------------------------------
BABY just added an adorable bunny print in L size, and it's actually L (to 102 cm). They also have a skirt with a 58-100cm waist!!
I'll have to think about this. maybe brown...? since I have a couple black ones? I dunno. All the colors are really really cute. Bunnies wearing fur coats and iceskates, people. ICESKATES.
I keep thinking of how cute and classy Kumiko-san (one of BABY's designers) looked when I saw her in Tokyo wearing a darker (I think it was brown) color way of Mother Goose Starry Sky. She really impresses me. She really seems to be able to wear lolita almost all the time, but comfortable in it.
I really need to go back through my loli wardrobe and reevaluate some things. Like, I'm really just not sure if the BW version of the longest name JSK is for me. I'd have to mod it a little, and there's something about the white accents that makes it a little too sweet, I think. I'd rather have it in BXB. ..... and I'm not sure about this hot pink snowdot JSK. I LOVE IT, but it's a little small in the bust area.
But maybe I'll take some photos with them on and you guys can help me decide. <3
Thinking about what I want to wear for the Hello Kitty Bats N Cats Masq, too.

The Only Beef Stew I've Ever Loved...
Nov. 5th, 2009 | 11:49 am
posted by: leene_chan
...contains chuck roast, dried porcini mushrooms, salt pork, carrots, onions, fresh thyme, anchovies, kalamata olives (shoulda been nicoise), tomatoes, orange zest, chicken broth and an entire bottle of red wine. It's Provencal-style Beef Stew from Cook's Illustrated!
It takes almost three hours in the oven, so be sure to only make it on a weekend or a day off! I usually don't like beef stew at all. I'm not a huge fan of red meat; in particular, chuck roast is way too fatty. But this stew is something special. We've made it once before, and it even froze wonderfully. I hardly ever see a whole chuck roast on sale in the grocery store. Most of the recipes we have for stew call for blade steaks, but cutting up a chuck roast yourself works much better. At $2.99 a pound, who could complain?
If I were to change one thing about it for next time, I would add more carrots. You can either serve it over mashed potatoes or egg noodles. I think egg noodles work much better. You can't really do huge portions with this dish (unless you're a big eater)because it's very rich. It's very, very good, though.
I promise to post about something other than cooking soon! I think meals are the only projects I actually finish. ^__^;

Tonight's Dinner: Pan-fried Crabcakes and A Whole Lotta Convenience Food.
Nov. 3rd, 2009 | 06:55 pm
posted by: leene_chan
Tonight we made Pan-fried Crabcakes from Cook's Illustrated's American Classics. They're made of super lump crabmeat with hardly any filler--they're like an awesome wall of pure crab! This is probably the fifth time we made these. I usually squirt lemon juice on top but occasionally I like to sprinkle them with Chipotle Chile Tabasco Sauce. XD
The side dishes were both frozen. The potatoes were some Birds Eye steam-in-the-bag thing and the veggies are Trader Joe's Brittany Mix. I had wanted to try my hand at smashed potatoes but there was no time! The crab cakes fry up in under 10 minutes and they have to be served immediately. =_=
The crabmeat is like $20 for four people but we always get it on sale. In our neck of the woods, sushi costs $35 for two people, so it makes crab cakes seem quite affordable.
Note to self: invest in better plates.

Thanks to jubilima, I ordered some Fugawee Martha shoes in bone (offwhite) with these goldish ribbon buckles. This is so I can have something passable as period shoes to wear with my 18th century dresses. I'd love to get some pink fabric ones eventually,... but bone will go with most of my dresses fine.
